PDF Files

We request all our artwork to be supplied as high resolution (300dpi). It is important that you prepare your PDF file in the correct way. These options must be set for commercial printing:

Resolution

Choose High Resolution
Compression Settings – For colour and greyscale this should be down sampled to 300dpi with “auto compression” set on high Font Embedding – Should be set to “embed all fonts”
Colour needs to be set as CMYK not RGB (RGB artwork will be converted to CMYK and this could affect your colours).

Illustrator

Include all embedded images and convert all text to outline. Save as a PDF file.

Photoshop
Set

Resolution to 300dpi when starting your new document. Save file as either

TIFF or JPEG

Other files not listed above must be saved as PDF.

Imposition

Please ensure that you do not supply your files imposed or as “printers pairs”. Please only send one version.

Artwork Bleed

It is essential that there is a minimum 3mm bleed around your artwork. This is for cutting purposes. For example:
A6 size would be 111mm x 154.50mm. Save your artwork as any of the above formats. Please note that there is a 2mm tolerance for cutting on all jobs so please allow a 5mm safe zone for text on all artwork.

Please ensure that the colour is set to CMYK not RGB.

Please note that it is important when supplying a PDF from a Microsoft document, care is taken to ensure any spot colours are created correctly in your original document.

For publication print quality any raster images you are using must be a minimum of 300 dpi at the size they are to be printed. An image which is 300 dpi at A6 (postcard) size will effectively drop to 150 dpi if you decide to fill an A4 page with it, so make sure the images you are using are of suitable quality for the size you want to print them.

RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue – the colours of light a computer screen mixes together to make colours on your screen.
CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black – the inks our digital presses mix together to make colours on your printed job.
